There have been a number of  changes  to  Stockbook  in  the  latest upgrade just released by  Practical  Systems  –  Version  8.5.

These  are  just  some of  the  changes.  If  you  need  further  explanation  on  any  of  the  changes  do  not  hesitate  to  contact  the  Practical  Systems  support desk.

AI dams on a User List

In the AI joining screen you  can now select a User List as  you  are  doing  the  joining  so  that  you  can  use  that  list  to  filter  for  the  joined  cows  on  the main animal list.

EBV decimal points

An  option  to  choose  the  number of decimal points can  now be set  that will show  for  the  EBVs.  Go  to  the  Setup/ Performance/Trait  Analysis  System  menu  option  and  after High  colour/Low  colour  settings  select  the  number  of  decimal  places  and  whether  the  result  should  display  as  a  percentage or not.

EBV printout where value  is not available

If  the  animal  has  no  value  for  a  particular  field  or  estimated  breeding  value,  Stockbook used to print a zero  for  that  EBV.  This  has  now  been changed to just leave the  ield blank if there is no value  for that EBV.

Master CSV

Exporting  to  a  CSV  file  now  allows  you  to  set  your  own name  to  the file name of  the saved CSV file.

Trading Report In  Stockbook

When  you  enter  selling  costs  as  part  of  the  disposal  event  they  are  now  relected  in  the  Trading  Report.

Quick Add on the  ‘laptop screen’

You  can  now  choose Dam  to go on the Quick Add screen  so that calves can be mothered- up at the time of putting them  into Stockbook via the ‘laptop  screen’.

Animal health statement  number

Stockbook now gives users  the  ability  to  enter  a  animal  health  statement  number  on  the QA\Vendor Dec screen.

Pregnancy Test Report

This  report  now  adds  number  pregnant  and  number  empty in the summary area at  the bottom of the report. System generated  Primary Id numbers New  generic  Primary  Ids  now  consists  of  a  number  made  up  of YYMM0000  (eg  08030001),  except  for  the  Agrisphere  program,  which  retains  the  original  use  of  the  Client  Id  number  for  generating the ID.

Foster dams

The  Add/Edit  Animal  screen  now  includes  a  foster  dams option. Cow status when adding  a foster dam or calf dies If a calf dies or is disposed  of,  the  Birthing/Foster  Dam  status is now changed from Wet  to Dry or Wet/Joined/Pregnant  to Dry/Joined/Pregnant. Also,  if a calf is put on a foster dam  the  status  for  the  foster  dam  is set  to Wet and  the Birthing  Dam to Dry

Calculating breed  percentages

When  importing  sire  information on a list of animals  through  the  File/Import  Options/Animal  Details  from  Data Collector Files menu, an  option  is available  to use  this  sire  data  to  recalculate  breed  percentages  on  the  import  animals in Stockbook.  This  is  particularly  useful  where  animals  have  been  entered  with  just  dam  information pending the results  of a DNA paternity test. 

Calf registration

When  a calf is fostered The  Calf  Registration  export  file  now  includes  the  foster dam identiication.

Alphanumeric breed object ields for sheep 

Breed  Object  numbers  24  and  25  have  been  changed  to  alphanumeric  for  sheep  producers.

Notes on animals

The Note event now writes  to  the  notes  field,  not  the  remarks  ield,  and  shows  on  the pedigree printout.

Gallagher EID Readers

Gallagher  readers  now  appear  in  the  RFID  reader  dropdown  box  in  Electronic  Id/Setup menu  dropdown  list  of Readers.

Animal Main Filter

You  can  now  filter  the  animals list screen by the main  breed of an animal.

Electronic scales and  readers

The  number  of  ports  available  to Scales, Draft and  Barcode  in  the  Electronic  Id/ Setup menu  ‘ports’ dropdown  lists have all been increased to  50.

Expected Birth Dates  Report

This report, when sorted by  Vet date, now groups animals  by cow as well.

Animal  management  program  Stockbook  can  be  used  on any property where  information on  individual animals  is needed. Multiple animal types can be recorded and the  program can be used for any type of animal including, but  not limited to, sheep, cattle, goats, horses and alpacas.
